Freelance Quantity Surveyor

Hays are currently working with a well‑established subcontractor delivering technical construction packages. They are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the team on an initial 3‑month freelance contract, with a strong opportunity to move into a permanent position should this suit your longer‑term career plans.This role is office based near Thetford, with hybrid working available once you are fully up to speed and would suit a QS with proven experience operating within a specialist subcontractor environment.

Your New Role

You will play a key role in supporting the commercial delivery of live projects, managing specialist packages from a commercial perspective.

Duties will include

• Commercial management of specialist subcontractor works
• Preparation, submission and agreement of valuations
• Management of variations and change control
• Cost reporting, forecasting and final accounts
• Liaising closely with project teams, main contractors and external stakeholders
• Supporting commercial decision‑making and risk management on technically detailed projects

What You'll Need to Succeed

• Previous experience working for a subcontractor (essential)
• Background in managing specialist or trade‑focused packages
• Strong knowledge of valuations, variations and commercial reporting
• Ability to work proactively in a fast‑paced project environment
• Confident communication skills and strong commercial awareness
