About the Direct Payment Holder

A kind, patient and non-judgmental Carer is required to support a friendly 19-year-old young man with Special Educational Needs and learning disabilities to build confidence, independence and social connections within the community.

This role would suit somebody with a good sense of humour, a calm and easy-going nature, and ideally someone who enjoys spending time with young people and supporting them in a subtle, encouraging way.

The young man enjoys music (especially Twenty One Pilots), Doctor Who, cooking, art, animals, horror films, comic com events and cinema. He enjoys meaningful conversations once he becomes comfortable with somebody and would benefit from support to reduce social isolation and develop confidence in community settings.

Hours and rate of pay

Hours

6 hours per week

Working Pattern

Flexible – support may take place on Mondays, evenings, weekends or occasional weekdays, planned in advance where possible

Location Cheshunt, Hertfordshire (EN7 area)

DBS/Checks Confirmation of DBS check

Right to Work and references will be needed.

Training Training will be offered to enable to complete the mandatory training required

  • Introduction to first aid
  • Health and Safety / Moving and handling

What you would be doing…

Attending local activities and youth groups

Trips to the cinema, bowling, swimming or local events

Occasional trips to London for comic or entertainment events

Support with shopping, budgeting and simple cooking activities

Providing companionship and emotional reassurance in the community

Encouraging independence and social confidence

Required skills and experience

Kind, understanding and emotionally supportive

Confident, reliable and flexible

Able to communicate well with both the young man and his family

Comfortable supporting someone experiencing anxiety and low confidence

Open-minded, quirky or creative personalities are welcomed

No formal qualifications are required, although experience supporting young people or individuals with additional needs or mental health challenges would be beneficial.

Driver Requirement

Essential – applicants must have access to their own car and be willing to support community access and outings.
