We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Respiratory Trust Resident Doctor (SpR) with a special interest in Tuberculosis (TB), Bronchiectasis, and Respiratory Infections to join our forward-thinking Respiratory team.

This role offers excellent experience in both acute and specialist respiratory medicine, with a strong focus on infection-related respiratory disease. You will work within a well-established multidisciplinary team, including specialist nurses, microbiology, and infection teams, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across inpatient and outpatient settings.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care across inpatient and outpatient settings, while contributing to service development, teaching, and quality improvement.

On-Call Commitments in Respiratory service

1 weekday evening per week: 17:00 – 21:00

1 weekend in 6: 09:00 – 17:00

You will be part of a supportive and collaborative Respiratory department committed to high-quality patient care, education, and service development.

This role provides an excellent platform for trainees aiming to pursue a career in Respiratory Medicine, particularly those with an interest in ILD and Pleural.

With a new hospital planned for Watford, work underway to update theatres at St Albans City Hospital and plans for a neighbourhood healthcare centre in Hemel Hempstead, this is an exciting time to join us.

Provide senior clinical support in acute and general respiratory medicine, including ward rounds and on-call duties

Assess and manage patients with respiratory infections, bronchiectasis, and suspected or confirmed TB

Support inpatient referrals and ambulatory care pathways

Participate in outpatient clinics

Participate in TB clinics and MDT discussions

Gain experience in diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of TB

Work closely with TB specialist nurses and public health teams

Manage patients in dedicated bronchiectasis clinics

Develop expertise in long-term management, antibiotic strategies, and airway clearance

Manage a wide range of acute and complex respiratory infections

Work collaboratively with microbiology and infection teams to support antimicrobial stewardship

You will support the Respiratory ward through regular patient reviews, including management of patients requiring escalation to higher levels of respiratory support such as:

Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV)

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)

High-Flow Nasal Oxygen

The management responsibility of the post-holder will be to the Clinical Leaf for Respiratory Medicine, Dr Matthew J Knight
