Advanced Clinical Respiratory Physiologist (Band 7) Full-time (37.5 hrs)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiasticRespiratory Physiologistto join our busy and dynamic team atBedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Our Respiratory Physiology service delivers a wide range ofroutine and complex respiratory diagnostic investigations, alongside a busysleep and home ventilation service.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills. You must have aminimum of five years’ experienceworking as a Clinical Respiratory Physiologist, with the ability to work under pressure, prioritise your workload effectively, and contribute positively to a team environment. You will also be expected to support the development of junior staff. Evidence ofcontinuing professional developmentand experience across a broad range of respiratory diagnostic investigations is essential.

Applicants must hold aBSc in Clinical Science/Physiology or equivalent, along with appropriate prior experience at Senior Clinical Respiratory Physiologist level.Eligibility for RCCP/AHCS registration is essential.

The post holder will undertake a wide range ofhighly specialist diagnostic respiratory investigations, providing expert and clinically accurate reports in accordance with local and national guidelines. They will deliver advanced knowledge and skills across a broad spectrum of respiratory investigations and communicate results effectively within the multidisciplinary team.

They will providetraining and supportto all relevant members of the MDT in the delivery of both routine and complex respiratory investigations. The post holder will work closely with respiratory consultants, specialist nurses, and other medical colleagues, offering clinical leadership and contributing to ongoing service development. They will also provideexpert domiciliary NIV knowledge and trainingto the wider MDT, working in partnership with the Lead Sleep and Home NIV clinician.

The role includes facilitating theefficient and effective management of resourceswithin the respiratory physiology service, as well as contributing to both the strategic development and daily operational management of the department.

The post holder will act as aclinical role model, serving as a resource for staff and demonstrating a strong commitment to evidence‑based practice and clinical excellence to ensure the highest standards of patient care.

They will ensure that all services delivered meetnational clinical standardsand align with the strategic aims of the Trust.

TheAdvanced Clinical Respiratory Physiologistrole is designed for an individual with expert knowledge and extensive experience in performing and reporting both routine and complex respiratory and sleep diagnostic investigations. The post holder will also deliver a structured in‑house training programme, supporting the development of competencies in respiratory and sleep measurement techniques.

As an integral member of the Respiratory Physiology team, the post holder will demonstrate strong leadership and managerial skills on a daily basis. They will provide mentorship and guidance to the Respiratory Physiology workforce and offer support to the Deputy and Senior Chief Clinical Respiratory Physiologists.

The post holder will play a key role in delivering thecardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET)service, leading CPET sessions and demonstrating advanced analytical and reporting skills.

They will provide line management to Clinical Respiratory Physiologists, offering visible, high‑level leadership and ongoing support.

The role also includes supporting theSleep Service, including full polysomnography studies, and holding specialist responsibility for the domiciliary CPAP/NIV service, ensuring its smooth and effective operation.
