About this role

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse or Clinical Research Practitioner with relevant qualifications to join the Haematology Trials Team in the Cambridge Cancer Trials Centre (CCTC) at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

In this role, you will work alongside teams across the hospital and collaborate with researchers from other NHS Trusts, universities, and industry partners worldwide. You will join a well-established and highly successful research team that has recruited patients to a number of different over 40 clinical trials, including CTIMPs, observational studies, and commercially led research. This is an exciting opportunity to drive innovation and improve patient care by enhancing diagnostics, refining treatments, testing new technologies, and advancing medical knowledge.

As part of the Haematology research team, you will be supporting a collaborative approach to improving patient outcomes. Particularly in Multiple Myeloma, which has recently become a leading commercial research driver for Bispecific and Trispecific treatments for a persistently incurable blood cancer.

This role requires a dynamic individual who can work autonomously with colleagues both in the outpatients setting as well as on the Malignant Haematology wards in the Trust, recruiting and coordinating patients for novel agents and the necessary pharmacokinetics blood sampling, that can be complex, requiring excellent coordination and organisation skills.

MDT working is key to identifying and recruiting patients to clinical trials. Exceptional interpersonal skills with both patients and colleagues are essential.

Main duties of the job

The band 6 Research Nurse is responsible for the provision of high quality, patient focused clinical research within the Haematology CCTC Research Team.

Responsible for identifying eligible clinical research participants, provision of information and support to patients/participants, study recruitment and consent, co-ordination of study treatment/ interventions, assessing, developing and implementing specialist nursing and clinical care and data collection according to study protocols in accordance with ICH Good Clinical Practice, EU Clinical Trials legislation and the NHS research governance framework.

Responsible for providing specialist advice and support to other staff; communication skills are essential for liaising with other staff.

Building relationships across the wider CCTC and Haematology discipline, admitting specialties and

Clinical Nurse Specialist teams, in order to maximise referrals and recruitment of patients to clinical trials.

Taking ownership of study management for specific clinical trials, liaising with Sponsors, Chief Investigators, Principal Investigators and delivering training to clinical staff on those trials.
