About this role

Applications are invited for a Clinical Fellow Core in Paediatric Otolaryngology (ENT) at Addenbrooke's Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The post is primarily clinical based, available as soon as possible for a period of 12 months and will be based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

The successful applicant will join the team providing care for children undergoing both secondary and tertiary ENT surgery. Candidates should have >2 years’ experience of practicing medicine. This post will provide ample opportunities to gain experience in the management of childhood ENT presentations in an elective setting, and in managing childhood ENT emergencies.

There will also be opportunities to assist in Paediatric ENT theatre sessions. The successful candidate will also be able to participate in audit and research within the department. The successful applicant will not have any on call duties.

The post may suit an aspiring surgical trainee or a paediatric trainee (FY2/ST1 level) wishing to broaden their experience.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

We are looking for an eager individual to support with the undertaking of outpatient clinics for Paediatric ENT. The post holder will assist the wider team in reducing the backlog of children awaiting an appointment with the service, whilst increasing their skills in Paediatrics.

The post holder will be working alongside the supervision of Paediatric ENT Consultants during their clinic sessions. The post holder is expected to run 6 clinic sessions a week on average, of which is open for discussion with scope to increase following agreement between the department and the post holder. The post holder will also be encouraged to attend sub-specialty clinics in Paediatric ENT.

The post holder will primarily be based in Paediatric ENT. The individual will be expected to attend the department’s medical audit, morbidity and mortality meetings and the in-house continuing medical education programme. The individual will be encouraged to complete a robust research project in Paediatric ENT including publication in a peer review journal.
