To be confirmedBasildon Salvation Army is a growing Corps with a developing ministry with homeless and vulnerable people in the local community through a daily drop-in and weekly foodbank, as well as running the Malachi supported housing project. We believe in transformation, seeking to journey with people holistically through change, looking not only to their physical, but also their emotional and spiritual needs.We are seeking a committed and visionary Christian leader to provide spiritual, pastoral, and operational leadership to this unique Salvation Army setting.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be a Salvation Army Soldier with a calling to ministry who will be responsible for leading Sunday worship, the discipleship and pastoral care of the congregation, as well as developing the spiritual ministry and casting a vision for the missional direction of the midweek programme. Leading a team, with line management responsibility, they will also manage the Corps budget, as well as act as the local representative and contact for the Salvation Army in Basildon, embodying The Salvation Army’s identity, values and mission, and working closely with partner agencies and churches in the town.

The successful candidate will

The successful candidate will have a heart for working with homeless and disadvantaged people including those with addictions and complex mental health needs; they will have a strong understanding of Scripture and Salvation Army doctrine, good communication skills, and experience in leading worship and pastoral ministry; a sound understanding of safeguarding policies and processes and strong people management skills will be important; and they will have a desire to develop and maximise the potential of the work already begun in working with people towards transformation.There is an Occupational Requirement for the post holder to be a practising committed Christian and Salvation Army Soldier.In order to complete your application please download and read the job profile and any other attachments.In the job profile you will find the criteria required for the role please make sure that you address this in your supporting statement as this forms the basis of our shortlisting.Appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, a criminal record check Enhanced DBS Disclosure check and evidence of your Right to Work in the UK in line with Home Office requirements.As we are not a licensed sponsor, applicants must already have the right to work in the UK.
