Due to extensive growth within our faculty, we are currently recruiting Trust Grade Junior Clinical Fellow to work in the Medicine directorate at Basildon University Hospital and being a part of exciting MSE Trust. Successful individuals will undertake up to a 12-month rotational programme on two rotations of 6 months each. This gives you an amazing opportunity to take the medical experience gained into an environment where you can see a more specialist service in a bit more detail.
Thepostholderwillhavetheopportunitytorotatethroughdifferentteams within general medicine and specialty medicine such as Endocrine, Stroke, Respiratory,Palliativeand elderly care. Individualswill getthechancetoworkontheacutemedicaltake(asperrota)focusingonmanagingacutely unwellpatientswithinthefirst48hoursofadmission,aswellasthenprovidingcontinuedcare ifthepatientrequiresahospitalstayoflongerthan48hourswhentheyaretransferred tothe post-acutewards.Thispostwouldbesuitableforanydoctorwhohassuccessfullycompleted a 2-year Foundation School programme or has achieved equivalent competencies.
· InitialclerkingintheAcuteTake,assessment,diagnosisandmanagementofall patients admitted.
· Wardroundswithrelevantconsultantsandmanagementofallpatientsonthe wards,and any outlying wards.
· Referralofpatientstootherspecialities.
· Appropriatedischargeofpatientsafterdiscussionwithseniorteammembers.
· Performingbedsidepractical procedurese.g.venous bloodsampling,ABGs,urine catheter insertion, LP etc
· Gainingexperienceintheoutpatientsettingwheneverappropriateunderseniorsupervision.
· Supervision and education of medical students (UCL and ARU students) and junior doctors using a combination of ward-based and classroom sessions.
Basildon & Thurrock Hospitalshave received University Hospitaldesignation for the close association with University College Medical School, for which it is one of the biggest undergraduateDGHsites.Thepostholderwillbeexpectedtocontributetotheteachingof medical undergraduates and will have the opportunity to develop teaching skills.
Hours of work are subject to the requirements of the service; alterations may have to be madetotherota,inadvanceoratshortnoticetocoversicknessandabsenceofcolleagues. All posts have a commitment to the out-of-hour shift rota for General Medicine, approximately 9 shifts per 11 weeks.

· Thepostholdermustworkflexiblywithcolleaguestoachievethehospitalagreed planned activity for inpatient and outpatient services
· The postholdermustensure that standardsare developed throughclinical audit, evidence-based research and appraisal
· ThepostholdermustensureallemergencypatientsarereviewedbyaConsultant within 14 hours of admission
· Thepostholdermustensure allinpatientsarereviewedevery24hoursbya seniordoctor
· The post holder will be required to participate in audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and in CPD. Contribute to the development and maintenance of clinical protocols
