Speech and Language Therapist

About this role

Role Purpose To provide a specialist Speech and Language Therapy service to children and young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and complex needs within a specialist school setting. The post holder will support pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring high-quality, evidence-based assessment, intervention and outcomes. Key ResponsibilitiesClinical / Professional Manage a caseload of children with complex speech, language and communication needs Undertake specialist assessments and develop appropriate therapy plans Deliver evidence-based interventions and monitor progress against outcomes Provide written reports to inform EHCPs, reviews and statutory processes Maintain accurate, up-to-date clinical records in line with professional standards Apply a range of communication approaches, including Total Communication and AAC where appropriateService Delivery Work directly within a school environment, embedding communication strategies into daily practice Support inclusive education by advising on communication-friendly environments Deliver targeted and universal support in line with service delivery models Contribute to SEND panels, annual reviews and multi-agency meetings where requiredPartnership Working Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, teaching assistants and leadership teams Liaise with parents and carers to support communication development at home Contribute to multi-disciplinary working across education, health and social care Provide advice and specialist input to support holistic child-centred planningTraining and Development Deliver training, workshops and informal support to school staff Build capacity within settings to support speech, language and communication needs Participate in supervision, appraisal and continuing professional development Contribute to service development and sharing of best practiceGeneral Responsibilities Work in accordance with HCPC and RCSLT professional standards Comply with safeguarding, equality and diversity and health and safety policies Maintain confidentiality and work in line with GDPR requirements Support the wider aims and objectives of the SEND Integrated ServiceWorking Relationships The post holder will work closely with: School staff including teachers, SENCOs and support staff Parents, carers and families Health professionals including therapists and clinicians Social care and local authority colleaguesFlexibility The duties outlined above are not exhaustive and may be amended in line with service needs. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly and undertake other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.
