About this role

We are looking to recruit a motivated and reliable Housekeeper to join the Emergency Department team at Watford General Hospital. This is a busy and rewarding role supporting clinical staff to maintain a clean, safe and well-organised environment for patients and visitors.

The successful candidate will be approachable, hardworking and able to work well within a fast-paced team. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and a flexible attitude are essential. Previous housekeeping or healthcare experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.

You will be required to work shifts covering the hours of 07:15-19:45 on a shift basis but the role will include some weekday, weekend and bank holiday working as the role covers a 7 day on a rota basis. Full details will be discussed at interview.

The Housekeeper will support the smooth day-to-day running of the Emergency Department by maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety and patient experience. Duties include assisting patients to order meals and refreshments, ensuring dietary and medical requirements are met, and liaising with catering staff to maintain a high-quality service.

The post holder will assist in maintaining a clean, safe and tidy ward environment, including cleaning equipment and isolation areas in line with Trust policies and infection prevention standards. Additional duties include restocking supplies, transporting equipment and documentation, welcoming patients and visitors, maintaining non-clinical records and supporting departmental audits and safety checks.

The successful candidate will be organised, compassionate, flexible and able to work effectively within a busy multidisciplinary team.

With a new hospital planned for Watford, work underway to update theatres at St Albans City Hospital and plans for a neighbourhood healthcare centre in Hemel Hempstead, this is an exciting time to join us.

The Housekeeper is responsible for supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care within the Emergency Department at Watford General Hospital by maintaining a clean, safe and well-organised environment.

Key duties include supporting patients with meal ordering, preparing and serving refreshments, maintaining stock levels, cleaning ward areas and equipment, supporting infection prevention procedures and ensuring isolation areas are cleaned to Trust standards.

The post holder will work closely with nursing staff, domestic services, catering teams, portering services and other multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the department. Responsibilities also include welcoming visitors, transporting equipment and documentation, maintaining non-clinical records and assisting with departmental audits and safety checks.
