An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Receptionist / Appointment schedulerto join the Respiratory Department at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly organised, and motivated individual to join our busy team as a part-time Band 3 Receptionist. This role involves working cross sites collaboratively within an office environment, with responsibility for managing and prioritising a varied workload to ensure all receptionist and appointment booking duties are carried out efficiently, in line with clinical urgency and the Trust’s Patient Access Policy.

We are a hardworking, friendly, and flexible team, adapting to ever-changing demands, and are looking for someone who can bring the same positive and adaptable approach.

Working Monday to Thursday,08:30 – 16:30, 30 hours.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage and prioritise workload effectively. They will have first-class communication skills, maintaining a professional and approachable manner when speaking with patients and colleagues, along with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy in booking appointments and uploading documents o Cerner.

An understanding of the sensitive nature of the work is essential, with the ability to handle patient information in the strictest confidence. A flexible, proactive, and collaborative approach to work is also key.

With a new hospital planned for Watford, work underway to update theatres at St Albans City Hospital and plans for a neighbourhood healthcare centre in Hemel Hempstead, this is an exciting time to join us.

The post holder will provide a comprehensive and efficient reception service within the Respiratory department across sites. This includes checking patients in on arrival, booking them in for appointments, and ensuring they are checked out appropriately after their clinic visit.

The role also involves arranging follow-up appointments, scanning and uploading documents to Cerner PowerChart in line with the Trust’s Secure and Share Policy, and updating patient information on relevant systems as required.

The post holder will communicate professionally with patients and their families, both face-to-face and over the phone, and will work closely with clinicians, nursing staff, service managers, and administrative colleagues to support the delivery of an effective and patient-focused Respiratory service.
