About this role
The Production Operative is a General Operative who will work inside the factory as part of a team of operatives on the production lines. Leeks that have been freshly harvested from the field come onto the production line to be graded, placed into weighing machines, prepared for packaging and putting finished product into boxes and crates.
Working environment
The job will take place inside the factory. The jobholder will be required to work on the production line alongside other colleagues.
The factory can be fairly cold (approximately 15 degrees C) and the floor is sometimes wet. Leek skins can also fall onto the floor, which can make it slippery.
Leeks are part of the onion family and as such, they can produce a strong onion-like smell when cut. This can irritate some worker’s eyes initially, however any effect usually settles down quickly.
The role requires workers to remain standing on the line for extended periods. The standard working day runs from 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm, Sunday through Thursday, totalling 8 hours per day. During each shift, employees are entitled to a 30-minute break as well as an additional 15-minute break. Minimum 32 hours per week guaranteed.
Please note that transport to and from the site is not provided, therefore applicants must be able to make their own travel arrangements.
Tasks to be performed
The main duties a worker will be expected to carry out are as follows:-
- Work in the designated area of the production line, which could be grading leeks, placing leeks into weighing machines, preparing for packaging or packing into boxes and trays.
- To maintain the required productivity targets set by the Area Leader.
- To make sure all Company personal hygiene standards are maintained.
To follow all health and safety procedures as directed by your manager.
- To complete specific end of shift cleaning duties within the factory as directed by the Area Leader.
Depending on the leek quality and availability, other duties may be assigned across our wider factory.
