We’re looking for a Depot Health & Safety Manager to join our Risk, Health and Safety team at our Andover depot. Reporting to the Regional Risk & Safety Lead, you’ll work closely with depot leaders to provide expert advice, practical support and clear direction on keeping colleagues safe. In a fast paced, multi temperature distribution environment, you’ll be a visible and trusted presence, helping make health and safety part of how we work, every day and on every shift.

Why this role matters

At Co op, safety isn’t just about rules or compliance, it’s about people going home safe, feeling supported, and proud of the work they do. In this role, you’ll help shape a safety-first culture where colleagues feel confident to speak up, learn from experience and take real ownership of their safety and wellbeing. Working alongside the Depot General Manager and wider leadership team, you’ll play a key part in creating an environment where wellbeing and performance go hand in hand, and where doing the right thing for our people is always the priority.

What you’ll do

  • Be the guardian of colleague safety, providing professional health and safety expertise, guidance and practical support across our Andover depot
  • Work closely with depot leaders to build and sustain a proactive, safety‑first culture across all shifts and teams
  • Help shape and deliver our health and safety strategy, ensuring it reflects the real risks of a busy logistics environment
  • Carry out regular inspections, audits and safety conversations, turning what you see and hear into clear actions and improvements
  • Use insight from incidents and safety data to spot trends, understand causes, and prevent issues happening again
  • Coach managers and teams through incident investigations, focusing on root cause, learning and prevention
  • Work closely with training leads to shape and, where appropriate, deliver impactful safety training that resonates with colleagues
  • Build strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners, including contractors, trade unions, local authorities and enforcement agencies
  • Act as an expert voice for managing high risk activities, permits to work and contractor safety
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams and external partners, including regulators and enforcement bodies, representing Co‑op confidently and responsibly

What you’ll bring

We’re committed to making our roles as accessible as possible, so we only ask for the minimum criteria. To thrive here, you’ll need to bring:

  • A Level 3 NEBOSH General Certificate
  • A strong, practical understanding of health and safety legislation within an operational or logistics environment
  • Experience influencing and engaging colleagues at all levels, from frontline teams to senior leaders
  • The confidence to challenge unsafe work, always putting people first and explaining the “why”
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to look beyond numbers to identify root causes
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills, enabling you to collaborate, coach and inspire a one team approach to safety
  • Resilience and adaptability, remaining calm under pressure and using challenges as opportunities to drive positive, lasting change

We’re an organisation that puts people and communities first, and we’re powered by purpose. We want this to be a place where you can thrive, so you’ll also receive:

  • An annual bonus (based on personal and business performance)
  • 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
  • A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
  • 30% discount on Co-op products and 10% off other brands
  • Stream – early access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
  • Virtual healthcare including GP appointments, mental health support, nutrition and fitness advice
  • 24/7 colleague support service
  • Training and support for your development and career progression
