Locum Specialty Doctor in Orthogeriatrics | East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust

About this role

Applications are invited for a speciality Doctor in Orthogeriatrics. This is a fixed term appointment, based predominantly at the Lister Hospital Stevenage. This full time post comprises 10 programmed activities (PAs) with no on call commitment, which can be modified for a candidate preferring to work 10PAs or less than full time.

This is an excellent opportunity within the Elderly Care department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Teaching Trust, based at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage, which enjoys a unique geographical location close to London and Cambridge. The Trust also enjoys a reputation for our commitment to the highest standards of care and for our friendly and supportive approach.

The appointee will have the opportunity to further their medical knowledge and it is anticipated that the will develop special interests which align with the current and future needs of the department. The appointee will be supported and encouraged in their participation in audits, presentations and teachings. This appointment is ward and clinic based only and comes with the time included in the job plan for research and development which might suit an applicant wanting to further their career in Geriatric Medicine or gain further experience prior to applying for future rotational posts.

  • The appointee will work closely with the Elderly care physicians who have a special interest in Orthogeriatics to provide medical care to patients admitted with hip, femur and pelvic fracture in line with the NHFD (National Hip Fracture Data Base) guidelines, as well as providing medical reviews for other older patients admitted under the Trauma and Orthopaedic team.
  • The appointee will work with the hip fracture CNS to maintain the information entered to the NHFD.
  • The appointee will participate in the department’s teaching audit and educational activities.
  • The appointee will participate in Orthogeriatric outpatient clinics with a focus on osteoporosis care.
