Luma Education Recruitment are working with a specialist provision in Harlow seeking a Behaviour Support Assistant to work closely with pupils who present with social, emotional, behavioural, and learning barriers.
This is a highly rewarding role focused on building trust, consistency, and positive relationships with young people who may have experienced disruption, disadvantage, or challenges in mainstream education.
Full training and ongoing support will be provided — what matters most is your ability to engage pupils, stay calm under pressure, and be a consistent positive presence.
The Role
- Build strong, consistent relationships with pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
- Support engagement in learning through 1:1 and small group interventions
- Help pupils regulate emotions and behaviour using calm, consistent approaches
- Use de-escalation and relational strategies to support positive behaviour choices
- Work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to implement behaviour and support plans
- Encourage attendance, participation, and re-engagement with education
- Act as a trusted adult and positive role model throughout the school day
What We’re Looking For
- A calm, resilient and approachable person who can build rapport with young people
- Experience supporting children or young people (education, youth work, care, sports coaching, mentoring, etc.) is desirable
- Confidence in managing behaviour in a supportive, non-confrontational way
- A genuine interest in helping disadvantaged pupils overcome barriers
- Ability to remain consistent, patient and emotionally steady in challenging situations
- Behaviour training (TeamTeach, PRICE etc.) is helpful but not essential – training can be provided
- Enhanced DBS (on the Update Service) required before starting
