National Highways have an excellent opportunity for an Engineering Team Manager to join our team in the East Region. The Engineering Team Manager will manage the engineering team, leading a team of engineers in identifying and prioritising needs and developing preliminary solutions for improvement. The Engineering Team Manager will also contribute to the region's long term road strategy to deliver National Highways strategic objectives.

This role can be based from our Bedford, Cambridge or Ipswich office.

Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment.

  • Provide leadership, direction and line management for a team of specialist engineers, ensuring timely setting of objectives, performance management reviews and development of appropriate succession and development plans.
  • Manage the utilisation and allocation of team resources to ensure appropriate resourcing levels for all the activities in scope, including providing technical support for Project Managers in the scheme design and delivery process.
  • Be the asset owner for the relevant asset class, ensuring asset specific management plans and asset management decisions adhere to defined policies and standards, provide value for money and maximise contribution to the delivery of business objectives.
  • Ensure that all asset needs are identified, prioritised and managed in accordance with required governance and to achieve business objectives.
  • Act as the Region's focal point and provide technical expertise in the identification and prioritisation of asset specific needs, renewal and improvement option evaluation and selection, and development of early solutions.

About you

  • Civil Engineering Degree, or HND with relevant experience, or equivalent.
  • A Chartered Engineer with appropriate experience, or an Incorporated Engineer/near Chartered Engineer with extensive relevant experience.
  • Thorough understanding and experience of road safety standards, policies and strategies.
  • Extensive experience of managing a technical team.
  • Good commercial and financial acumen, including budget management.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
