Job Summary

The main role of the Class Teacher at

Vranch House School is to

  • be responsible for the planning, delivery and assessment of teaching and learning for groups of pupils in accordance with the Vranch House Individual Education and Wellbeing (VIEW) Curriculum’, our Core Offer and all Vranch House policies
  • enhance and facilitate a caring, consistent and well organised learning environment that supports the personal, social and physical development of each pupil
  • lead, direct and work alongside a dedicated team of support staff
  • act as a key point of contact for parents/carers of pupils in groups
  • work across all age and ability ranges of pupils at Vranch House
  • work as a member of the Vranch House multi-professional staff team to deliver therapeutic programmes of intervention that promote physical wellbeing
  • maintain working hours in accordance with teacher’s directed time and other duties required by the Chief Executive or Head of Education (HoE)

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

1. Complete long-term planning and medium-term planning that demonstrate sessions which have clear aims, objectives and content, appropriately structured to meet the needs of the pupils. Lesson time and resources should likewise be used effectively as a result.

2. Provide leadership to a range of support staff, including Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) and Mealtime Assistants (MTAs) throughout the school day. This includes at-least annual Performance Reviews with any HLTAs and/or TAs in your class team.

3. Write, implement and keep records on achievement towards Individual Education Plans (Termly Goals), in unison with the multi-disciplinary staff team at Vranch House.

4. As part of the Vranch House multi-disciplinary team, deliver a broad and balanced range of activities and learning experiences designed to facilitate: optimum progress of pupils through the VIEW Curriculum, the acquisition of knowledge/skills and to promote enjoyment in learning.

5. To use such teaching strategies and approaches required to enable access to learning and potential for achievement for pupils with complex physical disabilities and cognitive impairments.

6. Write, implement and keep records on achievement towards Individual Education Plans (Termly Goals), in unison with the multi-disciplinary staff team here at Vranch House.

7. Maintain a professional knowledge of the Statutory Assessment framework for SEND and Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) process; including preparing informative, helpful and accurate contributions to Review paperwork and presenting such reports to parents and professionals at Review meetings.

8. Chair, or Co-Chair with the HoE, Annual Review of EHCP Meetings for pupils within your designated class.

9. Write/collate high quality and informative annual reports to parents/carers about their child’s experiences and achievements across an academic year.

10. To act as the first point of contact for parents/carers of pupils in a class for all matters concerning pupils’ day to day wellbeing, academic progress and information sharing between home and school.

11. Participate in parent consultations open events and pupil performances etc.

12. Be professionally accountable for adhering to all Essential and Curriculum Policies and practices, and in so doing actively support and reinforce those policies, e.g. Information Governance Policy, Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy.

13. At all times, set a good example to the pupils they teach and the support staff team they lead by their own appearance, and their personal and professional conduct.

14. Establish and take responsibility for a designated classroom/teaching area and associated resources, ensuring that they are at all times in a good state of repair and fit for purpose. This includes end of term cleaning and preparation immediately before each new term begins.

15. After agreeing a plan for development through Performance Management Supervision with the Head of Education, take responsibility for their own Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in tandem with making a positive contribution to the priorities set-out in the School’s Development Plan.

16. Attend and contribute to meetings that develop programmes of study and any other relevant aspects of the life of the School or Charity.

17. Maintain an accurate day attendance register fully and accurately, for the pupils.in your class.

  • All staff are expected to promote and uphold the good reputation of the Charity by their words and conduct, both at or away from the work place. Any behaviour, action or statement made publically by an employee against the Charity will be an instant disciplinary matter.
  • We are committed to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and clients and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All posts are conditional on Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks and staff have a responsibility to inform Vranch House at point of application of any conviction or prosecution that occurs whilst employed by Vranch House.

Health and Safety

The Post holder is required to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

The Post holder is required to conform to statutory regulations and Vranch House Policies, on Health and Safety, fire procedures and confidentiality and to attend any training sessions as required.
