Plumpton College is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Lecturer in Land Based Studies to deliver an engaging land-based studies programme at Homewood School & 6th Form.

This is an exciting opportunity to inspire young people through a practical and varied curriculum, introducing them to the wide-ranging opportunities within the rural land-based sector. You will help students develop skills, knowledge and confidence while supporting their progression to further study and future careers.

About the Role

As a Lecturer in Land Based Studies, you will lead Plumpton College students in completing a land-based studies programme at Homewood School & 6th Form. You will deliver elements of learning from across animal care, countryside and environment, land-based studies and horticulture, giving students a valuable introduction to these specialist pathways and preparing them for future Level 2 study.

You will plan and deliver engaging lessons that bring learning to life, combining theory with hands-on experience involving land and farm animals. You will support students to achieve their best, building their practical skills, confidence and understanding of the sector.

You will

Plan, deliver and assess high-quality lessons to a consistently strong standard

Carry out initial assessments and maintain accurate Individual Learning Plans

Adapt teaching to meet individual learner needs and support positive progress

Embed English, maths and wider employability skills within teaching

Track student progress closely and take action where progress is at risk

Provide timely and constructive feedback on classwork, coursework, homework and assessments

Act as a personal tutor, setting targets and supporting student progress and wellbeing

Work closely with Homewood School staff and Plumpton College colleagues to support attendance, engagement and safeguarding

Support work experience activity, employer liaison and recording of student progress

Contribute to quality improvement, student voice, self-assessment and curriculum development

Support enrolment, induction, taster events, interviews, parents’ evenings and promotional activities

Maintain a strong and collaborative relationship with Homewood staff while representing Plumpton College and its values

About You

We are looking for a professional, adaptable and committed individual who is passionate about supporting young people to succeed and progress within land-based education.

Essential

Degree, relevant professional qualification or equivalent

Teaching qualification relevant to the level of programme or willingness to work towards one

Level 2 (or above) qualification in English and maths

Sector or industry experience and/or specialist subject knowledge in relevant land-based areas

Evidence of, or clear potential to, teach to a consistently strong standard

Strong understanding of the needs of young people and how these can be supported effectively

Clear understanding of safeguarding, student welfare and positive behaviour management

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Strong IT skills and ability to use digital tools to enhance teaching and learning

A collaborative approach and commitment to student success

Flexible, adaptable and able to respond positively to change
