SEN Functional Skills Tutor - Barking & Dagenham (10-15 hours per week)

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated SEN Functional Skills Tutor to deliver personalised learning programmes to young people in Barking & Dagenham who are currently not accessing mainstream education.

You will work on a 1:1 outreach basis, supporting learners with a range of additional needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and learning delays. Your role is to design and deliver engaging Functional Skills sessions (English and/or Maths) that rebuild confidence, close learning gaps, and help pupils re-engage with education at a pace that suits them.

Many of the young people you will support may have been out of education for an extended period. Your ability to build trust, provide structure, and create a positive learning environment will be essential. Prospero Teaching will work closely with you to monitor progress and ensure each learner receives the right level of support.

CONTRACT / POSITION DETAILS

  • Location - Barking & Dagenham (various community locations)
  • Position - SEN Functional Skills Tutor (Outreach)

1 tuition (English/Maths Functional Skills)

  • Start date - ASAP
  • Duration - Ongoing, dependent on learner needs
  • Contract type - Temporary
  • Hours - 10-15 hours per week (sessions typically 1-3 hours each)
  • Pay - From £25 per hour

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Teaching qualification such as QTS, QTLS, PGCE or equivalent
  • Experience supporting SEN learners or delivering Functional Skills
  • Minimum 6 months' experience in a UK education setting
  • Up-to-date Safeguarding Training (desirable but not essential)

REQUIREMENTS TO WORK WITH PROSPERO TEACHING

  • Right to Work in the UK
  • Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Two professional, child-related references covering the last two years
