About this role
Overall Purpose
The post holder will manage the Placement Team for Nursing and Midwifery and will be
responsible for the operational effectiveness, management and coordination of
administrative functions across the team. The Placement Supervisor is the main operational
communications and liaison link between students, academic staff and the placement
settings for all Nursing and Midwifery placements.

The post holder will be highly motivated, proactive and methodical with an ability to work in a

team results.
The post holder will manage the Nursing and Midwifery Placement Administration team and
work closely with the Placement Supervisor (Social Work and Education) and the
Professional Programme Support and Data Systems Manager.
The post holder will use their comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of
PSRB regulatory requirements and University policies/procedures to ensure the complex
Nursing and Midwifery placement needs of our students are met from entry to completion of
the programmes and PSRB registration.
Principal Duties
Supervision and Management
- The post holder will be responsible for the management, allocation of work and
supervision of the placement administrator team. The work involves the complex
allocation of Nursing and Midwifery students to placement areas, in accordance with
the requirements of the relevant curriculum, PSRB and University regulations, and
balancing these with the needs of the placement providers
- Set objectives, motivate team members, monitor performance of individuals and
achievements of the team, giving feedback and encouragement and ensuring
standards are met and enhanced
- Provide training for relevant staff on the placement processes and with support from
the Data Systems Officers on the use of relevant IT systems and PSRB portals
- Ensure that the team are kept up to date with developments in all PSRB, statutory,
legal and policy requirements and are provided with appropriate staff training
- Initiate and support a culture of teamwork, openness to change, and a solution
focussed resilience when faced with barriers
- Support the delivery of better value and greater efficiency through the identification
and elimination of unnecessary complexity within processes; identifying better ways
of working
Data Management,
General Duties and Deputising
- Confirm, prepare and set up forthcoming intakes of students on the database taking
information from MISIS and other data sources as appropriate
- Prepare the database for the allocation of new cohorts of students to their relevant
training settings in accordance with special requirements and restrictions, from
commencement to completion
- Work closely with the Data and Systems Managers to ensure data and systems are
up to date and fit for purpose
- Ensure that accurate data relating to practice placements and placement provision is
maintained and used to inform the decision-making process when allocating students
to appropriate settings
- Ensure that student absence and sickness records are accurate and updated on the
database and provide support and information to the academic team to enable them
to deal efficiently with students who have sickness and absence issues
- Work with external providers to re-arrange placements for students following an
interruption or resumption of training. Record and update changes relating to student
personal circumstances, informing the relevant personnel as necessary
- Scrutinise students’ practice profiles to ensure that placements meet curriculum and
PSRB requirements
- Liaise with relevant academic staff and students regarding meeting required
placement hours, placement plans and allocations
- Engage with the Unit Manager in periodic reviews of unit performance and contribute
to the overall development plan
- Provide accurate information and data for financial and PSRB audit purposes
working closely with the Registration, Compliance and Finance Team
- Support the Registration, Compliance and Finance team in making payments for
partnership and placement fees by providing relevant information and data
- Use judgement to resolve problems that are non-standard such as routine resolving
placement data or placement funding anomalies
- Attend internal, joint and external stakeholder meetings as required
- Analyse data and provide or contribute to statistical and written reports as required
- Project a favourable and positive image of the University by ensuring professional,
friendly and helpful responses are given to students, academics and outside
agencies at all times
- Maintain level of knowledge required in order to administer new/amended curricula,
policy and PSRB requirements and update skills in all university software systems
- Work collaboratively with the other supervisors in the PPS Unit to provide support
and cover when needed to ensure business continuity at all times
- The post holder will be expected to carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably
requested by the Unit Manager and to deputise in his/her absence when required.
