The Respiratory Department at University Hospitals Dorset is seeking to recruit an experienced clerk.
The post holder must be IT literate and ideally familiar with hospital computer systems including E-Camis, EPR, and Soliton. If not training can be given.
Required qualities include
efficient, a capable communicator, team player, organised, have the ability to prioritise own workload, maintain discretion, be able to work in a busy environment.

- To work closely with the nurse specialists/consultant secretary and B4/B3 within the Respiratory department and provide an efficient secretarial service.
- This will involve the typing of all clinical correspondence i.e. clinic letters using audio/digital dictation systems, booking appointments and telephoning patients.
- Deal with queries involving confidential documents regards a wide variety of information without recourse, recognising when issues should be referred and to whom.
UHD are investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting Managers will be happy to answer any service-specific questions at interview.
If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.

- Type letters under the supervision of the nurse secretary, using Digital Dictation when appropriate.
- Look up, sort and file patients’ results.
- Use the hospital computer system to access patient details. eCamis must be always used when receiving and moving notes. This is mandatory within the Trust.
- Photocopying, faxing, scanning and general filing.
- Be responsible for out-going post, meeting afternoon deadline.
- To answer nurse secretaries’ telephone and take messages when required.
- Action Choose & Book referrals once graded – send blood forms, test requests as advised by Clinicians.
- To fully support the Secretaries and PA’s in their role and to help cover during sickness and annual leave.
- Any help the staff may need with spreadsheets excel etc.
- Ensure outstanding EIDF’s are completed. Organise follow up/send on to other departments.
