Applications are invited for Trust Doctor (CT1 / 2 Equivalent) in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. This post would be ideal for people looking for an F3 or CT3 year and wanting to develop their skills and CV

The Royal Cornwall Hospital is based across three sites, the Royal Cornwall Hospital Truro being the main DGH, with two further hospitals, St Michael’s in Hayle and West Cornwall Hospital, in Penzance. The trauma service is delivered at Royal Cornwall Hospital and orthopaedic elective surgery is undertaken at both the Royal Cornwall and St Michael’s .

There is a 56 bedded Trauma Unit, for both trauma and elective admissions, together with an admissions area, Theatre Direct. The Trust runs 18 trauma operating lists per week on the Royal Cornwall site per week, with a further 15 elective lists at St Michael’s in Hayle.

The unit has a good reputation for supporting its non-training grade doctors and many of our previous doctors have gone on to apply for specialty training posts. There is departmental teaching and the unit has strong links with the research department and is involved with a number of national multicentre studies

Job Plan

The post holder will be part of a 1:10 rota (CT level) providing a 24/7 on-call commitment.

On Call Availability

Weekday, weekend and night on-calls as part of rota template.

  • Work as part of a team to admit and care for the patients on the ward, in clinics and theatre.
  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management and delivery of trauma and orthopaedic services.
  • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit.
  • Fulfil duties of weekly timetable.
  • Sustainability is integral to the Trust achieving the NHS Net Zero target. All staff are therefore actively encouraged and supported to implement new ways of working within their field of expertise.
