About this role
The Clinical Measurement / GI Physiology department at UHD is a busy, friendly, multi-disciplinary service providing high quality care, primarily delivering a range of diagnostic investigations in gastroenterology and colorectal surgery.
We arelooking for an enthusiastic, qualified and experienced member of the team who has a background working as a Clinical Scientist, GI Physiologist or Healthcare Science Practitioner tosupport the clinical portfolio of the service.
The post holder will perform and report on a variety of gastrointestinal and other clinical measurement procedures to include: High resolution oesophageal and anorectal manometry, ambulatory intra-oesophageal pH and impedance monitoring, laryngo-pharyngeal reflux assessment, endoanal ultrasound, PTNS, hydrogen / methane breath testing, capsule endoscopy, and involvement in the sacral nerve neuromodulation service including temporary and permanent device management.The service supports Gastroenterology Consultants, Upper GI surgeons, Colorectal Consultants, Gynaecology Consultants and Respiratory Physicians. We also provide diagnostic testing to other hospitals in the region.

This post is a full time, permanent band 7 role based at UHD. The service currently runs Monday to Friday with potential to providing services over seven days in the future. Part time hours may be considered.
The post holder will conduct a wide range of physiological measurement investigations in both adult and paediatric medicine including, but not limited to, oesophageal manometry, oesophageal pH and impedance studies, hydrogen and methane breath testing, anorectal physiology, capsule endoscopy and wireless pH monitoring. The post holder will be involvedin supporting and developing the sacral nerve neuro-stimulation service.
The post holder will provide analysis and high-quality diagnostic reports of investigations. They will work with multidisciplinary teams reporting test results and contributing to discussions on patient management and care pathways.They will also be a key member of the pelvic floor service.
The department has strong links with local and regional gastrointestinal services and you may have the opportunity to be involved in multidisciplinary collaborations. You will provide support and mentoring for STP trainees and other junior members of the team.
If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.

The post-holder will be educated to a minimum of degree level in a science subject and have gained post graduate experience and /or qualifications in the specialism. They will have experience of research and an interest in research activity. Completion of STP, ASP or equivalent trainingand experience in GI Physiology is particularly desirable.
This role would be an ideal opportunity for a candidate who is due to complete the STP and who may benefit from an experienced and supportive team to help transition into a first newly qualified role.
Applications will also be considered from applicants with different healthcare experience and relevant qualifications wanting a patient facing role eg from AHP professions, clinical engineering or specialist nursing. As a development role, comprehensive training will be provided with the potential to complete the Accredited Scientific Practitioner (ASP) training programme in GI Physiology where appropriate.
The successful candidate will ideally have professional registration or will be working towards registration if newly qualified. They will ideally be an accredited independent practitioner with the Association of GI Physiologists (AGIP) or will be supported to achieve this once in post.

The post holder will possess excellent written communication skills, have the ability to train junior staff and be able to organise a busy workload whilst remaining calm under pressure.
They must be self-motivated and able to motivate other team members to meet service needs and demands, and be flexible to the needs of the service with a positive attitude. They must also be a strong team player with plenty of initiative, imagination and determination to make a difference.
