Mentor

About this role

We are currently seeking energetic, reliable, and compassionate mentors to support young people requiring alternative provision across the BCP area. This rewarding opportunity involves working with children and young people from Early Years through to Post-16, providing tailored mentoring support ranging from 2 to 10 hours per week.

Mentoring is delivered on a one-to-one basis, either within the young person's home or out in the local community, depending on their individual needs and circumstances. Each support programme is carefully tailored to help students build confidence, develop positive relationships, and re-engage with education and daily life.

The role focuses heavily on emotional support and positive engagement. Sessions may involve activities linked to the young person's hobbies and interests, community-based activities, or simply spending time together in a supportive environment, such as going for walks and encouraging open conversation. The aim is to provide a consistent and positive role model who can help students feel more confident, supported, and optimistic about their future.

In some cases, additional therapeutic approaches such as play therapy or art therapy may also form part of the provision to support emotional wellbeing and personal development.

The long-term goal of this mentoring support is to help young people successfully transition back into a mainstream or specialist educational setting where they feel safe, engaged, and able to thrive.

To be eligible for this role, candidates must have

  • A minimum of six months' experience working with children or young people
  • Experience gained in education, mentoring, tutoring, counselling, coaching, youth work, care, or support work environments
  • A positive, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting young people
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • An Enhanced Child and Adult DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one with our support

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people while gaining valuable experience within alternative provision and mentoring support.
