Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Nurse/Practitioner | University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust

About this role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and dynamic nurse or therapist to join the Dorset Multiple Sclerosis Service on secondment as an MS Specialist Nurse/Practitioner to cover maternity leave.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated registered nurse or therapist with excellent communication skills and relevant experience to deliver high quality, specialist care to people with MS in the Dorset area.

You will use your knowledge and skills to provide proactive management of people with MS from diagnosis onwards, offering specialist assessment, intervention, monitoring and support to patients and their families. You will work within the hospital and community settings, across Dorset.

We are committed to continuous professional development and offer role specific and on-going training within the MS Service.

This role requires an active UK NMC Registration or an active HCPC Qualification or therapist with profession specific recognised registration

  • To support the MS service in providing case-management, monitoring, symptom management, specialist advice and support to people with MS across the Dorset area.
  • To provide information, advice and psychological support to patients, their families and health care professionals; liaising and referring on as necessary to the appropriate health care professional in hospital or the community.
  • To participate in nurse-led and MDT clinics including those for disease modifying drugs
  • To be a resource to GPs, hospital medical staff, community and hospital-based nurses and therapists and other statutory and voluntary agencies.
  • To actively facilitate the delivery of quality patient care based upon principles of best practice. This may be achieved either directly through personal contact or indirectly via supervision of practice.
  • To deliver standard education sessions to patients in a one to one or group format
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner within the service

UHD are investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting Managers will be happy to answer any service-specific questions at interview.

If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.
