About this role
We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Head of Legal & ESG to lead our legal function, ensuring full compliance with commercial, regulatory, and corporate standards. The successful candidate will oversee all legal aspects of the business, including contract negotiation, data protection, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and ESG. This is a diverse role and requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams and the Board of Directors in order to support business initiatives and effectively manage legal risks.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Contracts
Draft, review, negotiate and provide practical legal and commercial advice on a wide range of commercial contracts, public sector agreements and SaaS reseller agreements.
Negotiate with customers and suppliers in line with business requirements and policies.
Work collaboratively with the Bid Team to reviewing contracts and tender documentation.
Provide legal advice and contract management support to the business.
Data Protection
Review and negotiate data protection agreements and provide advice on data protection clauses in contracts.
Ensure ongoing compliance with data protection regulations and applicable laws.
Maintain and update internal data protection policies and procedures.
ESG
Lead and own the ESG strategy and governance framework, ensuring alignment with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and evolving best practice across environmental, social, and governance domains.
Oversee ESG compliance and risk management, including legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations, and ensure appropriate controls, policies, and supplier requirements are in place and maintained.
Drive ESG performance and reporting, establishing KPIs, monitoring progress against targets, and ensuring accurate, transparent internal and external reporting to stakeholders.
Lead cross‑functional delivery of ESG initiatives, embedding sustainability, social value, and ethical practices across operations, people, client delivery, and supply chain activities.
Engage and influence senior stakeholders and external partners, including clients, regulators, and suppliers, to promote continuous improvement, accountability, and innovation in ESG outcomes.
Skills & Experience
Legal
Law degree with a minimum of 2-5 years post-qualification experience in commercial law, with a focus on contract negotiation, data protection, and compliance. Strong working knowledge of UK/EU data protection laws and regulations. Ideally a backround of working in technology and cloud fields and working knowledge of public sector contracting.
Compliance & Risk Management
Experience managing corporate compliance, including familiarity with ISO standards, GDPR, managing legal risk and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
Communication & Negotiation
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively with customers and suppliers.
Industry
In-house commercial contracts experience, preferably within a technology company.
General
Attention to detail essential, along with the ability to manage multiple projects across legal and corporate compliance.
