Hay 10Almondsbury CE Primary is a vibrant 315 place school set in a fantastic location overlooking the Severn Estuary, on the outskirts of Bristol and on the interchange of the M4 and M5.

The Governors of Almondsbury CE Primary School are looking for a very special and rather lovely SENTA to join our hard-working and committed team. The role is to offer 27.5 hours of support to children with EHCP’s over the course of the week. There would also be opportunity to continue over lunchtime and work as a play leader.

Previous experience would be an advantage; and just as important to us is finding someone who can champion the children’s needs and help those with additional needs make the most of everything school has to offer, socially and academically.

We have a large number of pupils with EHCP’s and you will work across two-year groups supporting these pupils and others with additional needs who have many great qualities but require specific support.

The needs are as follows

  • additional support required to support academic work both individually and in class
  • supporting transition into school and at lunchtimes
  • supporting the children when they become dysregulated
  • managing the children’s hypervigilance
  • managing emotions and support work on managing emotions
  • supporting sensory needs and fine motor controlIt would be wonderful if potential candidates have received some training or understanding of trauma informed practice.

Working alongside the class teachers, you will need to be astute and perceptive, able to quickly grasp what support the children’s needs to enable them to make strides in all aspects of learning. You will also have to be flexible and creative, so that you can adapt and deliver that support effectively. A SENTA with experience of children with a range of needs would be beneficial to enable you to fully support the children well.

Although rated outstanding by OFSTED, we don't think our school is perfect, but we are determined to offer our children the very best we can. Our Christian ethos and values are important to us and underpin all that we do. They need to be shared by you too.

We are a successful and happy school, with an established team of dedicated staff. The staff are continually developing their practice to ensure the children gain an excellent education. We have well motivated children who enjoy learning and are eager to participate in everything the school and community offers.

We are looking for a suitable candidate who

  • Has high expectations of children both academically and socially.
  • Works closely with colleagues as a team member.
  • Shares the school’s caring ethos and vision.
  • Shows enthusiasm, dedication, plus an excellent rapport with both children and staff and has a sense of humour.
  • Maintains a calm and consistent approach to working with the children.
  • Has competent English and Maths skills.
  • Is experienced at working alongside children with additional needs and has NVQ level 2 (at least).
  • Uses good communication skills with colleagues, children and parents.
  • Has the ability to aid to plan and deliver a range of interventions.

We will offer

  • A caring, warm and friendly school with a supportive and committed staff team.
  • Happy, well behaved children who are eager to learn.
  • A positive community school with strong links with local cluster schools, local community and church.
  • A commitment to professional development
