About this role
1. To execute the following duties so as to assist with the enforcement of statutes, regulations and other legal requirements under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Health Officer
- Investigate and take appropriate action when dealing with request for service relating to private sector housing conditions;
- Administer and operate the department’s programme for the monitoring of risk-rated multi occupied dwellings;
- Assist with the implementation of the Council’s policies and strategies;
- Provide support and assistance for the Senior Environmental Health Officer;
- Inspection of premises, plant, articles or substances;
- Administer grants/loans pursuant to Council’s policies, including scrutiny of estimates/preparation of schedules
- The assessment and licensing of premises, including HMOs.
2. To contribute to the proper administration of the team’s activities, including the provision and receipt of management information, input and maintenance of records and statistics, and the implementation of quality procedures/work instructions.
3. Training and supervision of new officers and students seconded to the team.
4. Direct and monitor the actions of any Technical Staff assigned to them.
5. Be authorised to take action under relevant Legislation in accordance with delegated powers.
6. Be prepared to act as lead advisor to the Senior Environmental Health Officer for service strands related to the private sector housing function as directed by the Senior Environmental Health Officer;
7. To be familiar with the provisions of all relevant legislation, guidance and Council policy.
8. To liaise with outside organisations involved or impinging on the private sector housing functions.
9. Prepare and present reports at Committee as directed by the Senior Environmental Health Officer. Represent the authority at meetings, committees or other groups
10. Monitor/supervise any contractors
11. Organise and conduct promotional initiatives/programmes such as Landlord forums, residents groups, energy efficiency schemes and public consultations
12. Any other duty, as directed, commensurate with the grading of the post.
