Estates Operative

About this role

Bodmin Town Council is seeking to appoint an Estates Operative to join its Estates & Facilities Team.

The post holder will undertake a wide range of practical duties to support the maintenance and presentation of the Town Council’s parks, open spaces, cemeteries, civic areas and other assets. The role is primarily outdoor based and requires a positive, flexible and safety conscious approach to work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grounds maintenance, including grass cutting, strimming, hedge maintenance and seasonal horticultural work
  • General maintenance of public open spaces, cemeteries, footpaths and council owned land
  • Operation and basic maintenance of tools, machinery and vehicles
  • Assisting with event set ups and civic duties as required
  • Undertaking health and safety checks and following safe systems of work
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues within the Estates & Facilities Team

Hours

37 hours per week (including occasional weekends and bank holidays)

Salary

Grade 2, SCP 6–9 (£25,989 – £27,254)

Requirement

Full UK driving licence

Previous experience in grounds maintenance, horticulture or a similar practical role is desirable. The successful candidate will be reliable, physically fit, capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
