What skills and experience we're looking for

The Five Islands Academy is seeking a reliable and hardworking Cleaner to join our friendly team at St Mary’s Base. We are an all-age, multi-site Church of England academy serving the five island communities of Bryher, St Agnes, St Martin's, St Mary's and Tresco, and our St Mary’s Base is the main site for our children from age 3 to 16. It is a bright, spacious learning environment for the children with well-equipped learning areas and beautiful gardens.

The post holder will work under the supervision of the Five Islands Site Manager and Headteacher, playing an essential role in keeping our school clean, hygienic and welcoming for pupils, staff and visitors. Duties will include daily cleaning of classrooms, corridors and toilet facilities, vacuuming, mopping, sanitising surfaces, replenishing consumables and supporting with the setup and clearance of school events.

About You

You will be self-motivated, reliable and able to work both independently and as part of a wider team. You will take pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and will be comfortable working in a school environment around children and young people. No formal qualifications are required, though some previous cleaning experience is desirable. You will have basic literacy and numeracy skills, a good understanding of health and safety, and a commitment to confidentiality and child protection. A willingness to undertake relevant training is essential.
