Location – Bristol or York (2 days per week in the office)
Salary – Basic wage of up to £80,000 + 25% Annual bonus
The Role
IPS Group are working with a leading UK Insurer to bring in an experienced Underwriting Manager to take the lead on shaping and strengthening underwriting expertise across a Regional Personal Lines team.
This is a great opportunity to play a key role in an evolving area of the business, especially as major transformation and digital changes continue to roll out.
You’ll be responsible for setting technical direction across Motor & Home products, helping deliver a strong, competitive customer offering while ensuring consistent underwriting standards.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you’ll help bring the underwriting strategy to life at a regional level, making sure it’s applied effectively and delivers the right outcomes.
You’ll monitor performance, track key measures, and set clear technical standards for the wider team. You’ll work closely with head office teams and key stakeholders, keeping a close eye on market trends and feeding insights back into the business so it can respond quickly and stay competitive.
You’ll also be involved in shaping products and policy wordings, offering your technical input to ensure they remain relevant and effective.
Alongside this, you’ll lead a team of Senior Technical Underwriters, supporting their development and helping raise the overall technical capability of the wider underwriting community.
What We’re Looking For
- You’ll have a strong background in Personal Lines underwriting (Motor and Home), with experience at a senior or leadership level.
- Confident handling complex cases, including complaints, escalations and referrals, and have a solid understanding of areas like reinsurance, Flood Re and high-value sum insured exposures (£5M+).
- You’ll be highly analytical and technically strong, but just as comfortable communicating with non-technical stakeholders.
- You’ll know how to challenge effectively, influence decisions and bring others with you.
- Strong leadership skills are key, and you’ll have experience coaching and developing others, building high-performing teams and encouraging continuous improvement.
- You’ll also bring a good balance of technical expertise and commercial awareness, making sure decisions not only make sense from an underwriting perspective but also support wider business goals and customer outcomes.
This is a brilliant opportunity if you enjoy combining technical leadership with strategic input. You’ll have the chance to influence change, support a growing and evolving area of the business, and make a real impact on both team capability and customer outcomes.
