We’re a friendly, supportive team, independently performing and reporting ultrasound examinations while ensuring the highest standard of patient care. We strive to deliver the best ultrasound service to our patients.
All sonographers working at band 7 and band 8a within Radiology receive Recruitment and Retention Premia payments of £5000 per annum pro rata.
We also offer a generous relocation package worth up to £13,000 (please see the additional information for the relocation policy to see if this is applicable to you).
Our ultrasound team is split over several sites, Poole, Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch hospitals and two community diagnostic centres in Poole and Southbourne. We carry out many types of ultrasound examinations such as general medical, obstetrics, gynaecology, vascular, paediatrics, including neonatal hips and neonatal heads, and musculoskeletal. We also scan as part of the Early Pregnancy clinic, various one-stop clinics and provide a 7 day ultrasound service.
There is a mix of Philips, GE, Canon and Samsung ultrasound systems throughout the department. This is an incredibly exciting time to join us as we transform our services across Dorset.

UHD Radiology department actively encourages CPD, supporting both internal and external educational events. Within ultrasound we promote regular audits, support the training of student sonographers and MSc level qualifications. We are considerate towards protecting staff against RSI with up-to- date ergonomic equipment and ultrasound lists designed to support safe practice, along with regular targeted input from our Occupational Health MSK Physiotherapy team. In striving for excellence, the radiology department has also achieved UKAS accreditation against BS70000.
The successful candidate would need to be able to work both independently and as part of our team whilst demonstrating high levels of competency. Excellent communication skills, outstanding interpersonal skills together with a caring and professional attitude are essential.
The post is full time across all sites, although a part time position and flexible working would also be considered.
