Development Manager (Operations)

About this role

Millfield School is seeking a highly organised and proactive Development Manager (Operations) to play a key role within the Development Office. This position leads on the operational delivery that underpins engagement, fundraising and stewardship activity, with responsibility for data, systems, financial processes, reporting and compliance. It is a varied and strategic role requiring a collaborative, detail-focused individual who can drive continuous improvement and support the successful delivery of Development priorities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the operational management of the Development Office, ensuring effective systems, processes and compliance frameworks support engagement, fundraising and stewardship activity
  • Oversee and develop the Raiser’s Edge NXT database, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, segmentation and continuous improvement of processes and reporting
  • Produce and oversee reporting and analysis, including KPI tracking, pipeline and income reporting to support strategic decision-making
  • Manage donor administration, including gift processing, Gift Aid, and oversight of budgets, expenditure and financial processes within the Development Office
  • Lead on prospect research, pipeline management and due diligence, supporting the identification and progression of fundraising opportunities
  • Coordinate projects, workflows and cross-department collaboration (including Finance, Admissions, Marketing and IT) to support effective delivery of Development activity
  • Line manage the Development Officer (Database and Research) and support the wider team in delivering campaigns, events and stewardship activity

About You

  • Experience in an operations, data, finance or fundraising support role, ideally within an education or not-for-profit environment
  • Confident working with databases/CRM systems and data analysis, with experience of reporting and KPI tracking (Raiser’s Edge NXT or similar is advantageous)
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines effectively
  • A strong understanding of data protection and compliance with associated policies.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments and with a range of stakeholders and to line-manage staff

Working Hours & Salary

This is a year-round role, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday with some evening and weekend commitments to engage with donors and attend events. UK and occasional international travel will be required.

The role offers a salary of £37,500–£41,000 per annum depending on skills and experience, plus a wide range of staff benefits including freshly prepared lunches for only £10.30 per month, access to school facilities, and discounts/cashback at high street shops and restaurants through the school’s Employee Assistance Programme.
