About this role

The Pharmacy Department has an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, highly motivated Pharmacist to join the Stroke Team. As a key member of the Stroke Team you will work directly alongside Consultants, Specialist Nurses, Non-Medical Prescribers, Pharmacy staff and with the wider Healthcare team.

The ideal candidate will have experience in delivering clinical Pharmacy Services to a range of specialties. You will be committed to the provision of highly specialist professional, clinical and scientific information and advice to Multidisciplinary Healthcare staff, patients and carers by using excellent communication and mentoring skills. The role requires strong prioritisation and time management skills to enable you to work efficiently and effectively as part of the wider healthcare team. You will have the highest level of commitment to patient safety and be dedicated to delivering outstanding medicines management.

Key responsibilities include

  • To act as a non-medical prescriber
  • To provide and oversee pharmacy services to the stroke specialty.
  • To provide specialist pharmacy advice in the areas of stroke medicine to consultants, junior medical staff, nursing staff, pharmacy staff, other healthcare professionals, patients and carers.
  • To liaise with speciality medical and nursing staff, other healthcare professionals, general managers, drug budget holders, pharmacy staff involved in medicine supply, medicines information pharmacists and regional and national colleagues in the area of stroke medicine.
  • To contribute to the wider healthcare community’s management of stroke conditions, providing a link between pharmacy and stroke services at Dorset County Hospital to patients and staff in primary care.
  • To participate in the training of medical, nursing, pharmacy, and other healthcare professionals in relation to safe prescribing and administration of stroke and general medications.
  • To lead, undertake and contribute to clinical governance with a focus of drugs used within stroke medicine.
  • To co-ordinate the use of high cost drugs within stroke medicine.
  • Take responsibility for policy development and service improvement within stroke medicine
  • To participate in the late, weekend and bank holiday rotas as required by the pharmacy department.

Pharmacy team comprises Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and Assistant Technical Officers. You will be a highly valued member of this team and the wider Pharmacy team as well as the Trust Stroke Multidisciplinary team. In addition you will be a role model and mentor for Foundation Pharmacists.
