A specialist primary provision in Poole is seeking a confident, resilient, and nurturing Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team. This role involves supporting pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 with Autism, SEMH needs, communication differences, and additional barriers to learning.

The school offers a structured, supportive, and inclusive environment where pupils are encouraged to feel safe, valued, and able to achieve meaningful progress. You will work closely with the Inclusion Lead, supporting vulnerable learners, delivering targeted interventions, and leading lessons during teacher absence and PPA cover.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HLTA, an aspiring teacher, or an individual with specialist strengths in areas such as PE, Sport, Music, or Art.

Deliver 1

1 and small group support for pupils with Autism, SEMH needs, and communication challenges

  • Lead pre-planned lessons during teacher absence and PPA cover
  • Support pupils experiencing anxiety, emotional dysregulation, or difficulties with transitions
  • Use creative, therapeutic, and differentiated approaches to engage learners
  • Promote emotional wellbeing, positive behaviour, and a safe learning environment
  • Support the development of communication, social interaction, independence, and self-regulation skills
  • Build strong, trusting relationships through consistent and clear communication

To be considered for this role, you will need to

  • Hold the Right to Work in the UK
  • Have an enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to obtain one)
  • Provide professional references covering the last 24 months
  • Hold an HLTA qualification or demonstrate substantial experience leading learning and supporting groups
  • Have experience supporting pupils with Autism, SEMH, or additional needs (highly desirable)
  • Access to free, accredited CPD including safeguarding, behaviour support, and de-escalation training
