Veterinary Surgeon (Maternity Cover) – Somerset
Salary up to £75,000 FTE DOE | Flexible Rota | No Weekends or OOH | Small Animal Practice
An award-winning, independent small animal veterinary practice in Somerset is seeking a Veterinary Surgeon to join their experienced team on a maternity cover basis. This opportunity is open to candidates looking for either a 6-month fixed-term contract or a 12-month position, with the potential to remain in a permanent Veterinary Surgeon role for the right person.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Small Animal Vet seeking flexibility, clinical development, and the chance to work within a highly respected, progressive practice environment. With flexible rota options available, including part-time hours, no weekends, and no out-of-hours commitments, the role offers an exceptional work-life balance.
Located in a beautiful Somerset seaside setting, the practice has been established for over 25 years and is recognised for delivering outstanding clinical care. As an RCVS-accredited practice, they have achieved numerous accolades, including Petplan Practice of the Year, Veterinary Employer of the Year, and an RCVS Outstanding rating for client and inpatient care. The practice also holds ISFM Gold Cat-Friendly status and RWAF Silver accreditation, demonstrating a commitment to high standards across all aspects of patient care.
The successful Veterinary Surgeon will join a collaborative, supportive, and highly experienced clinical team, including certificate holders in Surgery, Cardiology, ECC, and Dermatology, alongside a fantastic nursing team consisting of 14 RVNs, 2 SVNs, and 2 ACAs. Many team members have remained with the practice for over five years, creating a genuinely welcoming and stable environment.
The practice operates across two main sites and a third branch practice, with excellent facilities that support a high standard of care. Following a major expansion, the premises now include separate cat and dog facilities, dedicated consult and waiting rooms, modern hospitalisation areas, two theatres, a dental suite with dental radiography, and a fully equipped imaging suite including endoscopy. Exciting future plans include a CT scanner and the opening of a standalone clinic.
This role can be tailored to suit individual clinical interests. For a Veterinary Surgeon with a certificate or advanced skillset, there is scope to develop a more focused caseload, including opportunities for an imaging or surgical bias.
