Duties of a Vehicle Technician

  • Carrying out routine servicing and maintenance on a wide range of vehicles, including diagnostics, warranty work, and repairs
  • Completing digital write-ups, job cards, and electronic vehicle health checks (eVHCs) in line with manufacturer standards
  • Performing EV work (if qualified) and hydraulic repairs safely and efficiently
  • Utilising diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve complex vehicle issues
  • Assisting and mentoring Apprentice Vehicle Technicians to develop their skills
  • Supporting less experienced Technicians in diagnosing various faults, promoting workshop efficiency
  • Maintaining high-quality standards in a busy dealership environment
  • Ensuring all work is compliant with safety and manufacturer guidelines

Requirements of a Vehicle Technician

  • NVQ Level 3 or IMI qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent
  • Valid UK driving licence with minimal points
  • Active MOT licence is desirable but not essential
  • Proven experience working in a franchise dealership or similar environment
  • Strong diagnostic skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication skills and a professional attitude
  • Ability to produce high-quality work under pressure
  • A proactive, motivated, and team-focused approach with a mentor mindset
