Trainee Survival Equipment Technician

Working as part of the highly skilled Survival Equipment Team, the Trainee Technician will be responsible for undertaking inspection & scheduled maintenance work, repair and testing of a wide range of personal survival equipment/aircraft safety equipment. The position will be fully supported, and the post-holder given the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification in Survival Equipment. As a Trainee Survival Equipment Technician, you will have a role that's out of the ordinary. Our Trainee Survival Equipment Technician programme will equip you with the essential skills and experience to build a successful career working in the aerospace industry. You will work a four-day week Monday to Thursday, 38 hours per week and a three-day weekend!

Responsibilities

A specialist hands-on role, the trainee will have the opportunity to work with all aspects of the business servicing & maintaining lifesaving equipment and components such as, parachutes, liferafts, lifejackets and aircrew equipment and for both the military and civilian sectors. This will take place at scheduled intervals to approved requirements and industry standards. Day-to-day, over the training programme, you will receive an initial 1-week theoretical course followed by a 3-week practical training course in house, before being introduced to the working environment of the Parachute, Liferaft and Aircrew Equipment bays where you will undergo further On-the-Job Training (OJT) and practical experience on site.

Duties

  • Servicing & maintaining survival equipment to company/OEM manuals & guidelines.
  • Performing scheduled maintenance and safety policies on all aspects of the escape system.
  • Disassembly, testing & fault finding of survival equipment/escape systems.
  • Repair & replace of components.
  • Performing operational and functional tests of equipment.
  • Repair and replace components.
  • Introduction to the Defence Engineering Air Environment

  • Please note this can be a very physically demanding position. Manual handling will form a large portion of your day-to-day role.

Experience and qualities

  • No previous experience is necessary however a willingness and interest in practical applications would be advantageous. A background from within engineering would be advantageous.
  • A genuine interest in general engineering and aviation.
  • An interest of working in an engineering capacity.
  • Good GCSE standard of education.
