Our client, a well-established school in Penzance, Cornwall, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Learning Support Assistant to join their dynamic team. As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in fostering a inclusive and nurturing environment, where every student can thrive and reach their full potential. Based in Penzance, this position offers a competitive hourly rate of £14.50, with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young learners.

Your primary responsibilities will include

  • Providing one-to-one or small group support to students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), ensuring they receive the individualised attention and care they require.
  • Collaborating closely with teachers to develop and implement tailored learning plans, adapting teaching methods and materials to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Offering emotional and social support to students, helping them to build confidence, develop essential life skills, and overcome any barriers to their learning.
  • Assisting with classroom management, including supervising students during lesson times, break periods, and extracurricular activities.
  • Maintaining accurate records, documenting student progress, and contributing to regular assessments and reviews.
  • Participating in continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge, ensuring you are equipped to provide the highest quality support.

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate

  • Relevant experience working with children or young people, preferably in an educational or SEND-focused setting.
  • A genuine passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs and a deep understanding of the challenges they may face.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the capacity to prioritise tasks and work effectively under pressure.
  • A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach, with the flexibility to respond to the unique needs of each student.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and a willingness to stay up-to-date with the latest best practices in SEND support.
