Learning Support Assistant (Term-Time Only) (29.6 hours)

This is a part-time, term-time only role, working 38 weeks per year, 29.6 hours per week.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will provide essential learning support to students with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), particularly those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). You will help to ensure students are proactively supported to develop their independence and to achieve their full potential.

Interviews for this role will take place on-site, at one of our college campuses in Weston-super-Mare.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you may be based at any of our Weston-super-Mare campuses.

Day to day duties of the role

  • To use relevant professional feedback and input from students and their families to write and implement high-quality Additional Learning Support (ALS) Plans for an agreed caseload of students.
  • To provide regular support for an identified caseload of students, either 1:1 or in small groups.
  • To support students to participate in all aspects of college activity and to develop their study skills and strategies for independent learning.
  • To provide personal care/medical support as required for individual students with care plans.

Required skills and qualifications

  • Experience of supporting young people with a range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
  • Experience of working within an education or social care setting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of learning difficulties and disabilities, and the impact this has on learning.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of other professionals.
