About the Job.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineer to join our Pavement Team within the Operations Directorate in the South East Region region. Working alongside other professional engineers, you will lead in the development and delivery of a wide range of pavement renewal schemes, to ensure that the strategic road network (SRN) safely meets the requirements of our customers now and into the future.

Throughout the planning and development stage of a project, you will support with the activities and resources involved in the identification and development of early solutions for the pavement asset. Working with key stakeholders including project teams and third parties you will help coordinate works across the region, providing technical support and ensuring adherence to our defined asset class strategies, policies and standards

As a flexible working organisation we offer this role from either our Maidstone or Basingstoke office. From time to time there will be a requirement to travel between our offices and those of our stakeholders and partners. Please note that the role may also require work during unsociable hours.

You will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full clean UK driving license to be considered for this position and during employment.

  • Ensure the health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered and accounted for throughout the planning and delivery of each service activity.
  • Provide support in the identification and management of asset studies and survey works, including prioritisation of needs to ensure assets remain in serviceable condition and meet the requirements of our standards.
  • Conduct and lead the development of early solutions for renewals and/or improvements, including the compiling and checking of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, considering new techniques, materials, buildability, and costs.
  • develop the technical briefs provided to the design and construction contractor for improvement and renewals work.
  • To provide technical support to Project Managers by assisting with materials approvals, vetting of contractors' compliance, inspection support on site, and reviewing of Health and Safety Files.

About you.

  • Degree or HND in relevant discipline and appropriate experience, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of asset condition assessment and degradation modelling
  • Good knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards and their application on the highway network.
  • Experience in highway infrastructure design, construction and delivery methods.
  • Good knowledge of CDM 2015

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
