Barts Health NHS Trust • London E14 5HJ
About this role
Barts Health NHS Trust manages one of the largest and most complex operational estates in the NHS, serving
millions of patients, staff and visitors across East London. Maintaining safe, secure and resilient environments is
fundamental to delivering outstanding care.
This senior leadership role provides strategic and operational oversight of all security services across the Trust.
As part of the Soft FM leadership team, you will lead a modern, intelligence-led and digitally enabled security
function that protects people, assets and infrastructure while upholding the Trust’s WeCare values.
You will drive consistency across hospital sites, embedding a clear management structure and evidence-based
performance framework. This includes standardised roles, data-led incident analysis and proactive compliance
with emerging national requirements such as Martyn’s Law (Protect Duty) and evolving UK security legislation.
Working closely with the Associate Director for Portering & Logistics, Group Support Services and senior site
leaders, you will strengthen Trust-wide capability in incident management, threat intelligence and emergency
response.
This is a visible and influential role requiring strong operational expertise, resilience and strategic foresight. You
will set clear expectations, model best practice and build a responsive, professional security service that
anticipates risk and safeguards the wellbeing of all who use our hospitals.
Lead the operational design and delivery of security services across all Barts Health hospitals, ensuring effective
management of incident response, access control, CCTV and staff safety systems in line with NHS Security
Management Standards and statutory legislation. Embed consistent governance, audit and reporting through
digital platforms, intelligence-led analysis and robust performance monitoring.
Use data and incident trend analysis to identify risk, predict patterns and inform decision-making at site and
group level. Develop and implement standardised operating models, supporting local managers to deliver
responsive, high-performing services aligned to clinical operations and patient flow. Provide leadership to the
Operations Analyst, ensuring high-quality benchmarking and performance insight.
Work collaboratively with Estates and Facilities, clinical teams, emergency services, local authorities and police
partners to strengthen joint risk assessment, emergency preparedness and investigation processes. Ensure
compliance with Martyn’s Law (Protect Duty), NHS Protect guidance and relevant legislation, leading readiness
reviews and embedding training and testing.
Oversee security systems, contracts and technologies, ensuring integration with wider Soft FM and Trust ICT
infrastructure. Manage budgets and resources effectively, deliver cost improvement plans and maintain
statutory compliance.
