Electrical Design Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join a busy building services design team. The successful candidate will design electrical systems for a variety of building projects, producing clear drawings, schematics and calculation work to support safe, compliant and cost-effective installations.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop electrical designs for building services including power distribution, general lighting, emergency lighting and fire alarm systems
  • Produce detailed electrical drawings and schematics using AutoCAD (or similar CAD software)
  • Perform electrical calculations including load assessments, cable sizing and voltage drop calculations
  • Coordinate with mechanical, structural and architectural teams to integrate electrical systems into overall building designs
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant building regulations, standards and client/project specifications
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications and schedules to support tender and construction stages
  • Review contractor queries and provide technical support during construction and commissioning
  • Maintain accurate design documentation and revision control

Essential skills and experience

  • Proven experience in electrical design for building services (power, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms)
  • Proficient in producing electrical drawings and schematics using AutoCAD or equivalent software
  • Experience carrying out electrical calculations, including load calculations, cable sizing and voltage drop analysis
  • Knowledge of building regulations, standards and construction processes relevant to electrical installations
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Good communication skills and experience coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams

Desirable

  • Qualifications in electrical engineering (BEng, HNC/HND or equivalent) or relevant industry experience
  • Experience with Revit MEP, Dialux/Relux or other lighting/design tools
  • Familiarity with project stages from concept through to construction and handover
