Job Summary
As a Junior Cardiac Physiologist, you will be required to work as a competent practitioner within the Evelina London Childrens Hospital. Duties will include both invasive and non-invasive cardiac investigations, providing adequate technical cover during the departments normal working hours. Cardiac Physiologists with a background in adult cardiology will be expected to undergo paediatric cardiology training.
Principle Responsibilities and duties
To be technically proficient as a competent practitioner for both paediatric and adult patients with departmental support: ECG recording and interpretation, including transtelephonic ECGs and intracardiac recording. Application of continuous ambulatory monitoring and event monitoring. Application of continuous Blood Pressure recorders and holter recorders, use a specialist range of interpretation skills to analyse result and provide reports. Use a specialist range of ECG skills and interpretation to analyse tapes and event recordings and provide reports. Use judgement to seek further specialist opinions where appropriate. Assisting and training to lead during treadmill exercise tests, cardiopulmonary exercise tests, and tilt table tests, both technician and doctor supervised. Monitor ECG, BP and O2 during test. Responsible for preparing and operating cardiac defibrillator during ETT and CPET for cardioversion and emergency life support. Undertake further subspecialty training in the paediatric cardiac catheter lab and in MRI catheter lab, supervised reporting to support clinical team and to provide a service to other specialties. Ensure awareness of policies and procedures and that staff are working within them (handling and lifting, blood spillage etc). Raise physiologist profile by promoting good practice initiatives within the Trust. Completion of BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology Degree or equivalent. Complete RCCP registration. To be trained using patient information systems, Heart suite and Echo Pac To undertake additional staff development and training courses agreed with the Service Manager. Participate in presentations and research projects. PILS Training. May be required to work cross site
Training and Development
Attend training sessions as agreed with the Senior Chief Cardiac Physiologist. Attend any in-house training programmes, developing knowledge on how to interpret ECGs.
Other responsibilities
To undertake any other responsibilities commensurate with the grade and required by management. You will be expected to participate as a member of the major incident team when required. Post holders must be familiar with the Trusts Infection Control Policies, including those that apply to their duties, such as Hand Decontamination Policy, Personal Protective Equipment Policy, safe procedures for using aseptic techniques and safe disposal of sharps. Risk Management All post holders have a responsibility to report risks such as clinical and non-clinical accidents or incidents promptly. They are expected to be familiar with the Trusts use of risk assessments to predict and control risk, as well as the incident reporting system for learning from mistakes and near misses in order to improve services. Post holders must also attend training identified by their manager, or stated by the Trust to be mandatory. Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults Post holders have a general responsibility for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults in the course of their daily duties and for ensuring that they are aware of the specific duties relating to their role. Smoking Policy It is the Trusts policy to promote health.Smoking, therefore, is actively discouraged. It is illegal within Trust buildings and vehicles.
