Environmental Consultant (Waste & Material Management)

Your new role

As an Environmental Consultant, you will play a key role in delivering a range of material management, waste, and contaminated land projects.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Preparing and delivering technical reports such as material management plans (MMPs), verification reports, permit applications, waste sampling plans, and contaminated land assessments.
  • Designing, organising, and undertaking site investigations and waste assessments.
  • Auditing contractors to ensure compliance with environmental permits, material management plans, and waste legislation.
  • Managing the implementation and verification of material management strategies on site.
  • Liaising with clients, regulators, contractors, stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Supporting multi-disciplinary project delivery, ensuring a consistent and integrated service.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures, including preparing plans and overseeing site safety.
  • Managing your own workload to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you should have

  • A degree in a relevant discipline such as environmental science, geology, geography, chemistry, or similar.
  • Progress towards chartership with a relevant professional body.
  • Experience in environmental consultancy or a related field, with a track record of delivering projects successfully.
  • A strong understanding of material management and waste regulations, including relevant codes of practice (e.g. Definition of Waste Code of Practice, WM3 guidance).
  • Experience of site-based work, including sampling, monitoring, and supervising ground investigations.
  • Strong organisational skills and a willingness to undertake both site-based and office-based work.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites and client locations.

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience with HazWasteOnline.
