Hampshire County Council • Totton, Southampton
About this role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Personal Advisers to join our Care Leavers team at Hampshire County Council.
Are you looking for a challenging and diverse role working as part of a friendly and supportive team, with an opportunity to make a real difference?
The Role
Hampshire County Council’s Care Leavers’ teams are committed to improving outcomes for young people when they leave our care. As corporate parents, we want our young people to grow into confident adults and support them in making the transition into adulthood and independent living; we know that success will look different for each individual.
What you’ll do
You will be responsible for a case load of young people aged 16-25 from different backgrounds with differing life experiences. You will organise your diary so that you can manage the priorities of visiting young people and complete the administrative work.
The main role is to act as a mentor and coach for young people so that you can support them to reach their full potential. This will mean working individually with young people and also liaising with our partner agencies to ensure the best outcomes and empower young people to make their own positive choices. The role is hybrid so you will be expected to work on the move, at home and also in our offices.
What we’re looking for
- The ability to establish and maintain relationships with young people aged 16-25 years and the skills to work with partner agencies and families/carers.
- A full understanding of the needs of young people; adverse childhood experiences and the challenges faced by care leavers in adulthood. Clear evidence of having experience of working with this client group.
- Demonstrate core values of patience, empathy, and compassion.
- A team player with strong collaborative skills but also the ability to lone work with the ability to dynamically risk assess situations and locations.
- Sound IT skills and able to accurately record information and use the resources at hand.
Why join us?
- Comprehensive induction programme with all necessary training.
- Great satisfaction from supporting young people to reach independence successfully.
- Commitment to personal development including the opportunity to train as a Social Worker.
- Preparation for future senior-level opportunities.
