Part Time 8PAs

The Evelina London Children’s Hospital Emergency Department is seeking part-time (8 PA) Consultant to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking team. The department is currently involved in many exciting initiatives and is looking for an individual with appropriate skills to complement the team and help keep the service in the forefront of clinical and academic excellence. It is expected that, with this new post the expanded team will cover the children’s ED 7/7.

To provide a lead for the clinical care of paediatric patients attending the Emergency Department and other related activities with the aim of ensuring a high standard of clinical care and teaching. To contribute to service development, research and to take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training in the Emergency Department

This post is to add an additional full time member to the Paediatric EM Consultant team, providing a significant extension of the high-quality consultant-delivered clinical care the Emergency Department aspires to deliver, and to help provide consistent senior medical cover seven days a week including out of hours and on-call cover.

The Children’s Emergency Department sits under the umbrella of the Evelina London Children’s hospital andiscloselyalignedwiththeEvelinaGeneralPaediatricteam,Neonatology,local communitypaediatricservices,localchildandadolescentmentalhealthservices, and generalpractitioners. It is closely linked with the wider ED which sits in in the division of Acute Medicine in the Trust – comprising ED, Respiratory, Acute/General internal medicine, Elderly Care medicine & Sleep. The department sees approximately 150,000 patients ayear(witharound 30,000 children), one third of whomarrive by ambulance. There are 21 WTE adult and 8 WTE paediatric emergency medicine consultants.

Clinical

a. DiagnosisandtreatmentofpaediatricpatientspresentingtotheEmergencyDepartment;

b. Continuingclinicalresponsibilityforthepatientsinyourcharge,allowingforallproper delegation to, and training of, your staff;

c. LiaisewiththeclinicalteamsoftheEvelina LondonChildren’sHospitaltooptimise patient care;

d. Beresponsibleforthecareofchildrenforupto24hoursintheCSSU;

e. Workin partnership withthe Children’sAcutePaediatricteam in Evelina London to develop and deliver ambulatory models of care.

Teaching

All consultants are expected to take part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching during their normal clinical work.

Consultants taking on additional teaching responsibilities will have time allocated for these in their job plan.

Training

All consultants will be expected to contribute to the training and support of doctors in undergraduate and postgraduate training, including the role of Educational Supervisor in the educational contracts for junior staff in thespeciality.

In particular the post-holder will be expected to

a. Take responsibility for the training and direction of junior staff allocated to them, and be the designated educationalsupervisor in the Education Contracts for these junior staff;

b. Be instrumental in the training ofEmergency Medicine SpecialistRegistrars, Emergency Department ST2/3 or CT3 doctors in training and Primary Care trainees in Emergency Medicine;

c. Train Year 4 medical students during their Emergency Medicine rotation and supervise students undertaking Special Study Modules (SSMs).

Additionally, the post-holder will be responsible for leading the creation, development and educational accreditation of an international PEM fellowship programme, with support from the wider consultant team.

Research

Consultants are encouraged to become involved in clinical research.Clinical research undertaken as part of the trust research and development programme will be allocatedspecific time in a consultant’s job plan.Consideration will be given to the support required for any research agreed as part of the job plan.

Clinical

Governance

All consultantsare expected to take part in clinical governance activity, including clinical audit, clinical guideline and protocol development and clinical risk management.They will be expected to produce evidence of their contribution in these areas and their audit of their own clinical work as part of their annual appraisal.

Clinical

Management

All consultants are expected to contribute to the managementand development oftheir clinical service.Additional clinical management roles will be recognised in the consultant jobplan. Consultant staff areexpectedtoleadontheinvestigationandcompilationof reportsrelatingto any complaints or critical incidents involving staff and patients as directed.

Thepost-holderwillbemanageriallyandprofessionallyresponsibletotheClinical Leadfor Children’s Emergency Medicine.

Appraisal

Allconsultantsarerequiredtoundertakeannualappraisal. TheappointeewillbeexpectedtoappraisejuniorstaffasdirectedbytheirClinicalLead
