About this role

We are a small, friendly team committed to delivering high-quality patient care and are seeking a Nurse Unit Team Manager for the Outpatient Oncology/Haematology Unit at the Pevensey Day Unit, Eastbourne Hospital.

The unit has 18 treatment chairs/beds for the safe administration of Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) and supportive therapies.

You will provide strong leadership, demonstrate excellent communication skills, and support staff development with clinical and professional expertise. You must work effectively under pressure while maintaining high standards of care.

The role requires advanced clinical knowledge, participation in research and audit, and the ability to work with autonomy. In return, you will receive strong managerial support and opportunities for professional development.

Applicants must be a 1st level Registered Nurse with significant Band 6 Team Leader experience. A degree (or working towards one) is desirable. Leadership/management and teaching/mentorship training are essential, along with an understanding of current professional issues and HR management.

Oncology/haematology knowledge is desirable but can be developed.

This is a full-time role (4 shifts, 08:00–18:00, Mon–Fri, with occasional Bank Holidays), requiring flexibility.

The Nurse Team Manager is responsible for delivering high quality, safe patient care for the Ward/Unit and for providing safe, effective clinical and managerial leadership including the organisation of the department, nursing workforce and prioritisation of patient assessment, care and treatments.

An good understanding of oncology/haematology treatments, reactions and prescribing would be beneficial, but not essential. The expectation would be to develop these once the general matron/ward management skills and knowledge are embedded.

A main focus of the role will be to take responsibility to ensure optimal quality care and patient experience, facilitating safe and timely procedures at all times, as specified by National and Local Performance Targets. To maintain target times the post holder will actively participate in the implementation of the local, divisional and trust escalation policies.
