Duties as English Teacher

  • Deliver engaging and well-structured English lessons using pre-planned materials
  • Teach English across Key Stage 3 and, where required, Key Stage 4
  • Maintain a positive, safe, and well-managed classroom environment
  • Follow school behaviour policies, routines, and safeguarding procedures
  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet the needs of pupils with varying abilities
  • Encourage pupil engagement, participation, and progress in English
  • Manage classroom behaviour effectively to ensure learning is not disrupted
  • Provide clear feedback and handover notes for permanent staff
  • Represent Step Teachers professionally while working as an English Teacher

Ideal English Teacher

  • Qualified Teacher Status or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Experience teaching English in a secondary school setting
  • Strong subject knowledge and confidence delivering English lessons
  • Effective classroom and behaviour management skills
  • A flexible, reliable, and adaptable approach to supply teaching
  • Strong communication skills and a professional attitude
  • Willingness to work across different school environments
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
  • A positive and proactive approach as an English Teacher
