Senior Clinical Psychologist | Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust

The FEP team is a community Early Intervention in Psychosis service for people aged 14 and above experiencing a first episode of psychosis. We are a small, supportive multidisciplinary team where psychological input is highly valued. We work across the West Essex area covering three main bases – Harlow, Loughton and Stansted.

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic clinical psychologist who is passionate about working with psychosis in an evidence-based and client-centred way to promote recovery, hope and wellbeing. This is a Band 8a post although we would consider a newly qualified psychologists for a Band 7/8a development post for a candidate with relevant experience.

Within the MDT, we have a small Psychology Team which works in close collaboration with colleagues from other disciplines. Psychological practitioners work autonomously within professional guidelines to provide specialist, evidence-based assessment, formulation and intervention for service users and their families, in line with NICE and Department of Health guidance. The role involves developing comprehensive psychological formulations, delivering tailored individual and group interventions, and creating collaborative care plans that are communicated effectively to service users, carers and the multidisciplinary team.

Clinical

• Deliver specialist psychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based interventions for individuals/groups.
• Hold autonomous responsibility for caseload management, treatment, discharge, care planning, risk and safeguarding.
• Provide specialist psychological consultation to MDT colleagues and support psychologically informed care.
• Teaching, training, supervision & CPD
• Maintain professional development through supervision, appraisal and CPD in line with HCPC, BPS, Trust standards.
• Provide supervision, consultation and teaching to junior psychologists and MDT staff.
• Management, policy & service development
• Contribute to service development, audit, evaluation and quality improvement.
• Advise on psychological and organisational issues to support MDT leadership, recruitment, supervision and investigations

IT

• Maintain accurate clinical records and use relevant IT, research and assessment systems in accordance with information governance and Trust policies.
• Research & service evaluation
• Apply research evidence to practice and contribute to research, audit, service evaluation and clinical governance to improve quality and outcomes

General

• Maintain high professional standards, confidentiality and accurate record keeping in line with HCPC, BPS and Trust requirements.
• Build effective relationships with service users, carers and colleagues and remain up to date with legislation, guidance and mandatory training.

The NW Essex FEP team provides a community based service for people from 14-65 who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis.

The psychological practitioners in the teams work autonomously within professional guidelines to provide a high quality specialist psychology service to service users, their families, and other professionals/services involved in the life and care of service users; to ensure that effective, tailored, evidence based psychological assessments and interventions are delivered to service users and their families. They deliver interventions underpinned by evidence based practice, NICE guidance, and DH guidance.

The successful applicant will be responsible for robust assessment and formulation of a service user, and their context, from a psychological perspective. They will offer highly skilled care-planning in response to the formulation and communicate this accordingly to those involved in the care of the service user.

The postholder will work in collaboration with colleagues, teams and other services towards the overall provision of evidence based, cost effective, direct and indirect interventions to service users, and other stake holders. They will actively contribute to the decision making process of how scarce resources are utilised wisely and appropriately.

The successful applicant will contribute to the management of referrals by attending MDTs and team meetings, and assist colleagues to develop working hypotheses, informing the next steps in service users’ care.

They will assist in and contribute to the development of services, teams, projects and interventions and contribute to the review and evaluation of these developments; and give expert clinical advice to management about the effectiveness of interventions and models of care.
